Found: Alternative to Tweetchat!
Hello #storycrafters! With the next #storycraft chat only a week away, I am very happy to report that I have found an alternative to the now unsupported "tweetchat"! Following a chat in your own stream, even as a search can be enormously annoying, and we had lots of people asking if anyone had an alternative, last month, so this is a great relief to me, and I hope will encourage more of you to join in!
The service is call Twubs and I have registered our room at twubs.com/storycraft You can "join" as a member(or just lurker) of the chat by clicking the button about halfway down, on the right of the page and you'll be all set for next week!
When you go to the room, you will see it is laid out in the following way:
1) a banner which will be familiar to those of you who follow our Facebook page, under that
2) a feed of "host" tweets, which will make it easier for you to see the topic questions etc (unfortunately twubs only allow one host at the moment, but apparently more is coming soon, but I will be making sure to retweet Kim's questions so that no-one misses them!)
3) The tweet box which will allow you to participate!
4) a live stream of all the tweets in the hashtag - this stream has some very basic moderation abilities which will allow us to block any spammers or promoters who are rude enough to tweet during the chat :)
On the right hand side of the page, you will see various details including the hosts' details, contributor icons (any user whose tweet appears in the live stream) and the most important one (which I mentioned, above) the "Join" button, under which are the photos of those who have officially joined the chat via twubs - this option is especially useful for after chats if we've been so busy talking with someone that we've forgotten to follow them - you will be able to find them in the member area (as long as they have joined!)
The twitter chat service of twubs is relatively new (though the service has been around for 5 years, they are not flash in the pan) and they are promising more features, soon. I am hopeful that the service will preserve the chat in a form which will allow a transcript-type option for those who miss the chat - but I'm also looking at other options for that.
Next chat is in 7 days, so I hope that as many of you as possible will join us via the twub room you won't miss anything if you don't, but you won't be as easy for others to find as members and you will see spam, because the moderation only works for the Twubs live stream - the spammers are really picking up these days :(
I'm full of inspiration from attending lots of sessions at the Melbourne Writers Festival and very much looking forward to our chat! In the mean time, as always,
